Painting classes offered at Collin College
Oil and acrylic painting classes are being offered through the Collin College Continuing Education program. You can sign up through their website at https://www.collin.edu/ce/ or just give them a call at: 972.985.3711 to register.
Oil and Acrylic Painting I
The first class will introduce the basic media materials such as paints, brushes, mediums, and surfaces. We will discuss the qualities of the different paints and how they are used to create various effects from smooth and translucent to thick and textural. We will also talk about basic composition, color mixing, and even how oil and acrylic can be used together.
You will have fun playing with paint, experimenting with mediums, and simply enjoying the process. This course is designed to provide fun instruction for the beginning student and to develop a love of the creative process.
After we play around for awhile and start to get an idea of what the paint can do, we will be mixing colors, discussing how colors interact in layers and beside each other, and will work on composing a final painting. You may work in non-objective arrays of color and texture or you may try your hand at abstraction or realism. I’ll be there to help you along your way. No pressure to create a final masterpiece, we are simply here to enjoy the process of painting and learning.
You will only be chosing one paint media to work with: Oil, water-based oil, or acrylic.
Oil and Acrylic Painting II
Our second painting class will dive a little deeper into the painting process. We will continue with how colors work together and begin adding more indepth work on composition, creating perspective, shading and highlighting, and working towards completed paintings. Time will be allotted for independent work with both instructor and class critiques and discussions.
